Healthcare CEO Wins Ethics Award
ALEXANDRIA, VA …. The Health Ethics Trust today announced that Cathy Burzik, CEO of Kinetic Concepts, Inc., will be honored at this year's Healthcare Compliance Best Practices Forum on October 24 & 25 in Washington, D.C. Mark Pastin, President of the Trust, said, "Being named a Fellow of the Trust is the highest honor bestowed by the Trust. Fellows are nominated by members of their own organizations and selected by the Best Practices Committee based on their sustained contribution to ethics and compliance. This year’s winner, Cathy Burzik, was selected not only for her service at Kinetic Concepts, but for a career marked by a commitment to achieving results ethically.”
The Health Ethics Trust established the Healthcare Compliance Best Practices Forum in 1995 as a peer review process to recognize compliance achievements in healthcare organizations. Soon after the Forum was established, it became apparent that not only should best practices be recognized; individuals who have helped shape healthcare compliance should also be recognized. Since then, the title of Fellow of the Health Ethics Trust has become the mark of individual achievement in healthcare compliance.
When CEOs and boards learn that their organization is behind its peers on compliance, there will be a significant increase in support for the compliance effort. But how do you measure this?
Ms. Burzik was nominated for this award by a KCI employee who had been affected by her dedication to integrity. The award recognizes her leadership not only in the medical device industry, but in the field of healthcare ethics and compliance throughout her career. At KCI, she has gone a step further by making integrity a basic value of the company and building the corporate infrastructure to back it up. As her letter of nomination states, “Cathy lives what she believes. She embodies the highest level of ethics and practices that embodiment every day.”
Pastin commented, “I think that Cathy is one of the leading healthcare executives in the country by any measure, which makes her commitment to ethics and compliance all the more important as an example to others. The Trust is proud to have her as CEO Fellow of the Trust."
